What is Mizuhiki used for ?
Mizuhiki today is used for a variety of different purposes:
Seventy per cent of all Mizuhiki made in Japan, comes from Iida. which is situated in the beautiful alpine Japanese region of Nagano, the home of the Winter Olympics and the Paralympics in 1998 and The Misuhiki Association.
Iida Mizuhiki, because of its exceptional quality and tradition, is recognized by the Japanese Government as the number one Mizuhiki in Japan.
Mizuhiki is used for decorate a woman’s hair and enhance her appearance at her traditional wedding ceremony
and Mizuhiki is used to make traditional head wear, Motoyui, for Sumo wrestlers and is used by Kabuki traditional Japanese theatre actors.
Mizuhiki is used to decorate envelopes made of washi. These envelopes are presented to others to convey well wishing and to express thanks, gratitude and condolence.
Kinpu is a little folded-Washi envelope. It has been used for giving a certain amount of money for congratulations and ceremonials. Its design varies with the type of occasion, yet Kinpu can be used simply as a casual decorate envelopes.
